Doom: Battle


This is going to be a mod for ZDoom, your objectives is to control the marines in the fight, by buying them weapons, buildings, machines, everything they could use to win the battle. You don't take part of the fight, you just handle things.

It will maybe support multiplayer and skulltag.


Shot 1 shows the new info panel. It shows what's the currently selected option good for, and there's a background for readability. It can be toggled on or off.
Shot 2 shows the weapon buying menu. You can buy weapons, when you have one, you can turn it on and off at any time, wether marines should be spawned with that weapon or not.
Shot 3 shows that you can select the color of your marines. Currently there are 3 colors, Red, Green, and Blue.


Your marines have to reach a point/kill something in the enemy territory. Same goal for the monsters, so you shouldn't let them get into your territory.

Features: Version 0.1

-Player is invisible, ghostly, and invulnerable, and it also can fly, so you can view the fight from any angle you like!
-Color selection
-Ability to buy weapons, and Turining them on/off

Working on:
-Map(s) layout. Currently one map.
-Marines and monsters spawning. Currently monsters are too hard.
-Menu options, and layout.
-Difficulty. Currently it's too hard.
-Turrets. None of them done yet.

-Ability to buy buildings! Buildings will be useful for cover, and for healing stations!
-Ability to buy machines! Machines will be armed with weapons, and will be stronger than marines.
-Ability to upgrade marine spawning time, so marines spawn faster.
-Ability to buy/ask for reinforcement teams, which immediately arrive.
More will be planned.

This sounds pretty interesting. There has been a Doom RTS before, but it didn't use the real Doom engine, and it didn't do anything as creative as this. (It was actually just a Star Craft Ripoff)

There will be even more stuff like commanding squads, and i'll even try to make that you will be able to choose which side do you want to command, only at the start, of course. There is a thread at the Zdoom forums where i usually post news, so whoever is interested should check there often.

I think the battle field (and i dont know if you were planning this) should be in like UAC facilities or cities. Not just a green field.

Of course, i'm working on the battlefield(s) too, and i plan more battlefields. The one you see on the pictures arent completed yet, neither others.

Is it possible to make computer controlled marines help you in a map? Like in a normal game.(not your mod)

you can add bots in zdoom, you have to bind a key for it, zdoom doesn't have a default key for it(i think) the other way is to make friendly monsters, open the console, and type "summonfriend" and after that type in the monster's name, like summonfriend imp.

Where can I get ZDoom? I had doom 1 doom 2 thy flesh consumed tnt and plutonia, all in one package, but i lost that so i dont even have doom now any one know where i can get doom for free and what ever is required to get zdoom?

You cant get doom for free legally. You can get the demo for free though. Just search for it on google or something, or there is "freedoom" which is kinda different, but you can use zdoom with it. link: http://freedoom.sourceforge.net/

I got all that and I figured out how to spawn a marine. How do i change the color of the marine that spawns? Hes grey and i want him green

You can't summon a thing with custom colors ingame, you can only do it by scripting a map, and you need coding knowledge for that.

Yes, there will be side-choosing, but i'm not sure about multiplayer support. I hope i can do it. Still lots to do.

If possible you could try to make multiplayer similiar to that of the human side for Natural Selection (Half-Life mod). One player does all the building and stuff, while the other players do the fighting.

Nice idea. I think when i get finished with the main things, i could make a few versions of my wad, so there would be a version with the gameplay you said, and there would be a version about the originally planned, ... etc. But this will take a lot of time.

This project seems to keep itself alive, as i don't really get bored of making it, and i have big plans about it, i also usually make plans at school, but since school is about to end in a week and a half, i'm going to speed up the development in summer. :)

Well, when i said "machines" in the description text, i meant everything that's not living. And it can mean Tanks, turrets, everything. But i didnt think directly about tanks, they seem to be a good idea, but would look a bit bad in sprites.

This wad looks very intresting and great. Buying weapons, and ohter things. I will love to play it when its able, but it is propally some long time befor it gets released. I hope a demo comes soon cause i cant wait to try this. You mayby could try make it so you also can be the demons instead? Its just a idea.

I have ideas. Look up the WAD file hspawn.wad. It's a really cool WAD file, but it also has Airship sprites. You could make it like Halo Wars and have dropships that come in and unleash huge garrisons of soldiers! Maybe at the beginning you could have a scripted sequence where it shows these marines marching through a battlefield, then it zooms across the field and you see a Demon army walking to the marines. Then one of the soldiers looks up and a dropship flies by and drops napalm on the Demons - and then its flat out war.Also, can I beta test for this? Like, searching for bugs and stuff...

BTW, a really cool forest map would be cool, with maybe rain and thunder, with a B type symetry. Just a suggestion there. Keep it up there man, sounds great.

I'm thinking you should use seperate sprites for teh marines. If you buy a chaingun marine, you could give him a chaingun in his sprite instead of the normal marine. :D

You edit decorate using either slumped or xwe. You can make the story via mapinfo or dehacked, which can be made using slumped or xwe. I'd suggest you to research on google (you can look at anything with google), and perhaps search on doomworld forums and other doom forums as well, they are very helpful resources to look at.

Download Extendable Wad Editor.
Just google it. Make sure you run it as an administrator.

Decorate is not a program. It is a code. I think there are tutorials online.
I suggest you join ZDooM Forum or something like that.

You can make levels with Doom Builder - you can put monsters, objects, weapons, ammo - basically anything.

XWE allows you to change what the monsters, ammo, weapons, objects, etc. look like. You can also add codes and stuff, but that is not for noobs.

Don't feel bad if your .WADs look terrible and are really simple. EVERYONE HAS TO START SOMEWHERE. If you have any questions, ask on the zdoom forums. most people will answer your questions, but its a good idea not to keep asking the same question over and over again like you did just earlier.

Anyone wondering if this is still alive, I can say yes. Although not as quick on progress as it once was, I restarted from scratch not long ago but it will be loads better than if i sticked to what I had so far.

I'm working on several other projects even outside the doom community aswell, and i also play a lot of games so progress is slow.

Whoever's interested in progress, should try looking at the thread on the zdoom forums, as I would barely update this entry here.
