Resuming the Doomsday map. It is utilizing lightmaps and color-rooms. Have redone the textures and the map. Looking into creating 3D models such as slopes, catwalks, etc.

And as someone else mentioned it is indeed quake3-ish, probably due to the orange tones and skull-textured trims.

Nmn, the texture that you are referring to was made from the quake3 basewall textures. I have some of Lunaran's textures also, but not in this wad.

Dark_shadow, the lack of red sector light will continue to nag you until I set the sectors effect to 20 like it is in the last two screenshots. I don't feel like bugging the shit out of the site admin with unnecessary screenshot updates.

I have broken out all the doom3 textures and need an opinion. Should I flush all of the jdtp in my wad and replace it with doom3 textures. Of course, I'm not dumping my quake3 themed textures.

Ya know what? I am flushing the jdtp for doom3.

I can see he took some care and edited the texture for the doors..(good job BTW) you outat go full on D3 with this bad boy. I realize that the textures in screenshot1 don't belong there, but I wanted to do this as an experiment for my own personal edification. I've slapped some of the other D3 textures together in different combinations and put them in a test level. Damn, they look good. I'm in UAC heaven. Nmn, I need to think about joining the d3 project. My problem is that I'm a slow mapper. If the geometry and texture choices don't coincide, I flush it real quick and start over. I may not be who you are looking for. Where can I find more info about the project?

Colored lighting looks nice when used well, but when overused, it can be really distracting and annoying. Otherwise, those screens look pretty good.

but every time, when I see a good wad they stopped with it.
I also mapped much in real 3d and I now there are much more possibilities and challenges in the new then in the older 3d engines. But there is also a need of good wads ( textures, models etc ) for the older doom ports. I say , finish your map, release it and give other people your experience for the classic ports.

I am not releasing my textures to the public and thats final. If you have doom3, you can edit them in photoshop and illegally upload them to the public yourself. Now that some idiots with swollen heads went to Hollenshead with their bullshit, It isn't safe to screw around behind Id's back anymore.

Doom 2.5? Yes, we're aiming to recreate everything we ripped from scratch. Rips remain as placeholders. It's a matter of time now so we can avoid legality issues.
KDiZD and legality? Why certainly, but this has nothing to do with Doom3. More, we did obtain the permission. More, pushing the negative light from You on someone else does not make it move. Worse, it casts a stronger darkness on You.

All that aside, why are we talking about legality? No one will give a fuck about someone ripping D3 contents for their map. We are talking about quality issues here. I said-I wonder how will this stuff look with the new textures removed-simple-You get an average map. Spicing Your works with hi-res goodnes is no crime, if it was Your hi-res goodnes, not someone elses (ID's graphics in this case). Plus, it's only my little opinion. A lot of people can drool over this map for years and it won't bug me.

Ok people, cool down a little bit. Fighting and throwing shit is helping nobody.
My maps are a mix of ripping and self made stuff, If I see a nice texture what I think its very nice for my maps I also rip it. Models I make mostly of myself be course I like to make this.
And also people say to me, I see textures from other games, groans.
But this donít piss me of. I say then yes your right, I rip textures, but if all maps that used ripped textures must go to the trashcan then 90 % of the maps, are going.
I also says how many people has illegal software in house or a copy of music this is maybe more illegal than using textures from a other game.
I also say when I get a message from the makers of the game that they no like the use of the
Textures, I change it till they are satisfy.
But in the first place I want to make maps that looks graphical very nice, so I use textures from hi quality ( the quality that I cant make, be course then I was working for the game industry and not making maps for doomsday ).

Sitters, I agree with you 100%. Now here's a man with a voice of reason(great maps too). If I sounded pissed off I'm not. I sometimes get irritated by snippy comments. Could you imagine what Doom3 would look like if you replaced Id's textures with JDTP? It would look like shit! I use Doom3 textures because they look better than anything out there. As far as the textures in other ports, they wouldn't look right at low-res. Right now, Doomsday offers more in the form of models and lights than other ports, so I use it.

Yes I agree 80 % of the look of a environment is depending of the look of textures, models and lightning. Doomsday does the work with graphics the best of all the ports. But if you use shitty graphics and models it looks shitty.

I noticed that you use some unreal engine based game textures. Have you created any maps for unreal engine games? If so, where can I download them? I am also wondering if you made any tutorials pertaining to Doomsday model creation. I'm surprised you haven't mapped for doom3 with all your experience. I once created a doom3 UTX file for Unreal 2. The textures actually looked better in unreal, but there is no ability to create patches as in Doom3. I think that when the new Doomsday gets upgraded to Hawthorn, doom will be in a whole new light. Excuse my brainstorming.

Yea I did have make maps for unreal, doom3, half life 2, far cry. But never release them ( I make them for myself ass a hobby and like to learn 3d editers ). Now I have lost them after a hard disk crash ( no problem ). I Personal like the game play of far cry and half life 2 the most, I am a old fellow and donít like that fast as lightning game play, so I also like the doom2 game play.
Now is doomsday a challenge for me, to make graphical nice levels, there arenít very much of them and almost nobody using models ( and I think that is the final touch ).
I have bought all the games I like, and I have a lot. So it is easy for me to get textures I rip them from the games I have. I donít know if you have Photoshop, then you can make the doom3 textures much nicer by using the shader map and rerender the texture.
Models I make with wings 3D it is a free program and easy to use with a good manual and tutorials. I convert the models with milkshape to md2 models. Then I make them suitable for doomsday with mdl.exe (Milkshape do not include the texture of the model). The textures for the models, I make or modify them with Photoshop. It is a lot of work but you can make your level a lot nicer with models.

A while back, I also had hard drive problems. I lost a lot of work I was doing for Undying. I have backups, but without the modifications. I also like to experiment with editors from various games. I don't own Halflife2 or far cry yet. Will wait for the price to drop before a purchase. I also wish to use models in doomsday. I have Gmax and a few other free 3D programs, but not milkshape. I suppose I better spend the $25. Its a small price to pay. I don't have Photoshop, but I have the gimp. I can create normal-maps with it. I need to look at the other 3d progams you've mentioned. I suppose, a lot of hard work sometimes pays off.

In the first time you must have fun to make models ( it cost energy to learn it). In the second place what do you want for yourself, ( you like the forums, and want make some reputation as a good mapper ) then you must learn to make your one stuff and that cost a lot of time. Good maps without new stuff there are thousands of them, so you want to be the same, no problem but then you must take the critics of ripping and not being original.
I also getting that critics, but my maps are on this moment a mix of original and ripping stuff. My final go is to make maps with 100 % original stuff, but that cost me time to learn, and the critics positive and negative gives me the push to go on.


Edit: by the way you want this level to be great, make for the real 3d stuff in doom3, models for doomsday.
