After speedrunning through Doom and Doom2 countless times, I wanted to create something that maybe speedrunners would enjoy. So I started a new 32 level megawad called Dead in 60 Seconds. All the levels in this wad is designed under 40 minutes and all played under than 3 minutes. The main goal in these levels is to exit these levels as fast as you can or else you die. Each level has various times to beat. The "timer" is done by a simple voodoo doll under a crusher, simply beat the level before the crusher kills the "extra" player. Only 4 maps are completed, but due to very short levels, this megawad should be completed in no time.

This may be an interesting project, since Kaiser is a good mapper. However the trick with the player getting killed doesn't fit. I would do a Zdoom script that when it's time-up it displays a message but the player can still wander around the level.

Good idea. I can beat maps in less than 3 minutes. :)

Looking good Kaiser. Uh.. Really. I'll try and make a few maps for this, considering I thought up the basic idea for this project.

the maps looks cool, but ugh, I really don't like the idea of timing each map like that. It will really annoy some people (like me) who aren't super good at Doom and just want to have fun and play the maps.

"I would do a Zdoom script that when it's time-up it displays a message but the player can still wander around the level."

I wouldn't, since then it wouldn't be Boom compatible :P Hmm, interesting idea, but I'm someone who likes to stop and smell the roses... oh well, I'll hold judgement until I see it for myself :)

Looks great! Beat the map before the timer runs down and you die, sounds excting! Adds a certain intensity to the gameplay. I like the title...

If you make it a ZDoom exclusive wad, Legacy users will complain, etc...

I think the dummy player trick is more of a way of kaiser finding a way AROUND having to use scripting...right?

Cool idea, and the screenies look great too!

"I would do a Zdoom script that when it's time-up it displays a message but the player can still wander around the level."

That depends on what is wanted really, if he just wanted a timer, then time's up. He would have put a vodoo doll on a really slow and long conveyor belt with some fatal stuffage in the end. But he obviously want the player to die little by little.

Kaiser, what are you playing at? The reason you built this in 40 seconds is because you lifted parts of it straight from Doom 2's "The Gantlet" (map 03). Shots 1 and 2 make the map look like good old fashioned fun with the shotgun, but I object to shot 3.

Kaiser writes:(new) 04.01.2004, 14:11 GMT+1

I did not steal any part of any level from the oringinal Doom2 wad. Yes, map03 has Gantlet inspired areas, but notherless, its a totally different map.

Damn, I forgot to add a smiley to show I was half-joking! It does look heavily inspired by the Doom 2 maps, which I think is a bad thing since you are at your best when you are creating entirely original levels. I suppose there's nothing wrong with being inspired by other peoples' work as long as you get back to doing your own thing ASAP :)
