I have come quite some ways since this was last updated. I have added quite a lot, and am working now on the city, concentrating on the large skyskrapers. This is coming along nicely, as can be seen in the *non-ingame* screenshots. The entrance still needs the sliding glass door, and i need to do the other floors as well, but the bulk of the architecture is done. I still need someone to help me out with the cthulhu-style final boos sprite! email me or look on doomworld for info. of course this person will be givin all of the credit for his work, and will be in my debt.

tell me what you think!

Looks savage... I like when maps have a clear intention so I guess I would like your map, I mean, the objectives (survive-pass through-survive-win) seem very clear to me. If there are loads of monsters it could be a total carnage (thatīs why I donīt use to like open spaces in single player maps, I always get killed :( ) so I hope you put plenty of ammo there...
Iīd make a suggestion for it: make it brighter. Big outdoor maps look cooler and play better (IMHO) when they are bright. Keep it and post an overlook of the city...
Other suggestion Iīd do is to make a custom texture so the join points between the brown and green vines would be smoother (3rd screen).

Yeah, we've seen hundreds of shitty-city maps, with ugly cubic buildings not looking like what they were supposed to.

But City ruins are, actually, a rare type of a map. I remember one in Alien Vendetta... and no more. If you do this carefully and grant with a serious amount of detail. It will be definately worth playing!

thanks for your input! I will get right to making it brighter.
The thing about this map is that it is technically a big outdoor space, but this space is pretty crowded with pillers and walls and stuff, so there is plenty of cover (if you want cover, that is).
I guess you could say I was inspired by a level in the new 007 game (Everything or Nothing), which was a nice ruined city.
I am also going to add some ambient sounds (wind, waterfall), some VERY subtle fog (maybe), and MAYBE some wind... still playing with the idea.

As far as those textures go, I am going to redo the whole town. I found that if you do it all in green or brown vines, align everything, and THEN change some to the other, it keeps the alignment. This happened in some areas, but not all. Going to fix that.

BTW, keep in mind this is just an introductory part of the level before a bunch of caverns (even those underground-water passegways I was talking about!) and a more modern city. I am going to be on the hunt for a bunch of good glass and steel textures. These building are going to be life size (i.e.: TALL!) and hopefully quite intimidating.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Keep on workinī :D.

Jehar writes:(new) 07.06.2004, 05:54 GMT+1

btw, how would i upload a demo somewhere?
i would rather not get into all that ftp at doomworld.

dethtoll writes:(new) 07.06.2004, 06:52 GMT+1

ellmo, there's actually one in the old tei tenga wad. it was the secret level.

NiGHTMARE writes:(new) 07.06.2004, 11:08 GMT+1

Uh, Doomworld doesn't have an ftp.

It's not that hard. Just read the FAQ on how to upload to /newstuff.

Wow, this really looks like a nice map.

Jehar writes:(new) 07.06.2004, 19:16 GMT+1

thanks harry!

Nice map. I like the theme. Sure the name is cool. The only thing that bugs me are the unaligned gstones compared to the marbgrays in 3rd Shot. Those metal on shot 1 look a bit unaligned..maybe a simpler metal 1?

Jehar writes:(new) 09.06.2004, 20:12 GMT+1

I am not going to worry about alignment until i have all the arcitecture done. Ill get around to it. BTW, i just started a huge hall with pillers (a la moria) and it looks really sw33t in zdgl.

Jehar writes:(new) 24.11.2004, 18:36 GMT+1

Any comments on the building would be welcome, though the pictures are not the greatest.

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 24.11.2004, 23:13 GMT+1

Put up better screenshots than a building in the middle of a huge field! Other than that, work hard at this one, I haven't seen any good doom city maps to date.

Jow writes:(new) 25.11.2004, 10:19 GMT+1

Definitely more buildings and how about some asphalt streets?

Jehar writes:(new) 27.11.2004, 18:41 GMT+1

asphalt streets are a certain, and that huge field is the soon to be city, which is to be filled with like skyscrapers and and many other buildings.

And jow, as I said, those screenies are non-ingame! :P

iori writes:(new) 30.11.2004, 03:10 GMT+1

So um.. why show them if they arent in game? Personally i'd have waited until i had something concrete to show..

Nmn writes:(new) 30.11.2004, 13:45 GMT+1

I hate to be mean but I could make something like that in 5-8 minutes :/

Jehar writes:(new) 30.11.2004, 18:57 GMT+1

iori: i wanted to get the actual buildings done before i put them in. and dont say i dont have any work done. I have quite a bit if you looked at this page about a week ago.

Jehar writes:(new) 30.11.2004, 18:57 GMT+1

nmn: screw you. i suck. you rock. but hey, its all in fun, right?
