New bit: Well, this went well. The version here was mostly lost in a crash, I tried to re-do it, but couldn't be bothered. Then started working on a totally new version, which was going to have "hub like" progression (though EDGE does now support proper hubs). But that didn't exactly go far. It's crammed with stolen resources, anyway, like the infamous Earthbound Doom, only with slightly more rhyme-and-reason to them.
Before i even started Doom editing i dreamed of making levels with many new kinds of enemies in, however this wasn't possible when i actually got it, until i found EDGE! Originally this was gonna be a "re-make" of Doom and Doom 2 with a ton of new enemies. Now it's going to be a generic sequel where you retire to another planet but blah UAC experimented again blah experimental weapons blah new hellspawn we havent seen before etc. Predictably it will have Hexen/Heretic/other people's wad's monsters in it, but rather than just sticking in everything i can find i'll use ones that at least look hellish, for instance the revenant-like "knights" from Heretic (which fire a non-homing green fireball and are slightly tougher than a Revenant, no exactly-ported enemies here), oh and the dark Imp that gets everywhere. As it's EDGE there will also be new weapons, including the obligatory alpha rifle, a laser pistol, grenades and a railgun. Gameplay wise it's going to be like the original DSV, ie grab the SSG and wade through levels awash with shells blowing away everything. The levels will be more detailed (though unrealistic) and i'm planning at least one grand "set peice" scripted event per level, which may not always be nessicary to beat the level but will be helpful, for instance pressing an innocent-looking switch blasts a room full of demons running around with microwaves and incinerates them, which saves a few shells if nothing else. This does mean the screenshots are wildly out of date though. This isn't likely to be released for absolutley ages though, as i havent done any serious doom editing in years (just fiddling with an abandoned Legacy TC to amuse myself), and really want to get on with some self-published comics. Also i've had a brilliant idea for a counter-terrorist wad set on an oil rig, which i'll probably concentrate on when i do get back into editing
