Description:

Napalm 2.1 - A VIETNAM TC FOR EDGE

Update- Napalm is finally nearly complete, ive got to do a couple more maps and finish off the ai code which is going very well, and now uses a menu system to give orders to other marines..

Some new screenshots showing the basecamp, mission 1 and mission 3 still wip.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

UPDATE- 12/04/04 - I have decided just to make 1 big tour of duty rather than 3 smaller episodes, there is a beta out now email me if you want the address. Oh and i've just done all the muzzle flashs for the guns...

UPADTE- 17/11/04 - Well progress is coming along slowly, i've hit a wall thou because edge's friendly states are messed up, (meaning the other US troops dont fight back!). Anyway i've added some screenshots, the 1st is the half completed base camp, the 2nd is just to close for my liking and the 3rd is an extraction point.

Also i've started doing realistic ranges with the bullet weapons, so you have to use weapons of all types or face being either overun when reloading or picked off from a distance.

UPDATE- 3/1/05 - still having a few troubles with the ai, but im planning on ripping out all the old code a writing it all out again.

Also the new screenshots show the 16m colour textures, which look great..

BlackFish writes:(new) 27.12.2003, 23:48 GMT+1

Looking good! Make sure the enemies arent too strong (a big mistake in platoon).

Nmn writes:(new) 28.12.2003, 00:35 GMT+1

Some time ago I had Napalm 1 (or a wad with a same name-but it was war) and it was cool. This may be an interesting project, since EDGE is so powerful.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 28.12.2003, 01:33 GMT+1

Napalm 1.0 was the original release of this tc, its been a year or 2 since i released that, so everythings been revamped!

baphomet writes:(new) 26.01.2004, 10:24 GMT+1

where do you find version 1.0

Apocsoft writes:(new) 29.01.2004, 23:33 GMT+1

heres a the address, http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11104
its only got 2 missions if i remember right, and the grapcics were bad
but then i was only 15 at the time... by the way i wanting to find some
beta testers, email at ap0csoft01@yahoo.com if you want to help.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 31.01.2004, 19:18 GMT+1

apocsoft01@yahoo.co.uk -sorry!

geedougg writes:(new) 13.04.2004, 04:07 GMT+1

Nice, nice. Too bad EDGE never advanced beyond it's last state or it would be a good port to use even today.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 13.04.2004, 22:56 GMT+1

Well a new version is coming out (the beta is looking good, alot faster!),
and there were saying about dumping SW mode so they can enhance the gl side of it.

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 26.04.2004, 03:43 GMT+1

What are you talking about? EDGE has features people don't even know about. I use to think it was equal with a lot of ports but after extensive DDF coding, I think its much better than anything else.

Anyway, i didn't know you had a WIP thing here liberation/apocsoft, but it looks good!

P.S. what do you mean, only 15? I'm 15 and I make mods better than most 25 year old people...(check out my half-life wad, above this one in the EDGE list!)

Apocsoft writes:(new) 27.04.2004, 20:48 GMT+1

It was not the Mod its self just everything else... but being 15 made me
think it was half desent...

Lobo writes:(new) 05.05.2004, 22:36 GMT+1

Edge 1.28 is just about ready for release!! Hold tight!

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 07.05.2004, 03:31 GMT+1

when will it be out?

Lobo writes:(new) 07.05.2004, 22:38 GMT+1

Well after 3 Betas we're testing the release candidate(RC1) right now, so it *should* be soon.

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 04.11.2004, 03:36 GMT+1

Hey apoc how's it going? Anyway I was wondering, is this or any other of your EDGE mods completed yet? I'm looking for something to play, for some inspiration on my new project, and some EDGE fun...

Apocsoft writes:(new) 04.11.2004, 21:53 GMT+1

Hi nick im great thx chap, hows yourself. Anyway have a look at close combat, its for edge its finshed, but i have to do a couple of tweaks before i release it to idgames...

http://www.wadsinprogress.info/index.php?a=listwads&wad=301

Give me some feed back on it would u? btw it uses dynamic lights so use gl mode with dl's on. oh its in zip or rar format so take your pick.

DI writes:(new) 18.11.2004, 17:40 GMT+1

This looks very cool and interesting.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 18.11.2004, 20:04 GMT+1

Glad you think so DI, I hope to release something soon, i've pulled my old beta coz its miles out of date.

Hey Nick what do u think of the new screenshots?

Nmn writes:(new) 18.11.2004, 20:23 GMT+1

Cool stuff. I'll be playing this one for sure.

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 21.11.2004, 20:34 GMT+1
edited 21.11.2004, 20:37 GMT+1

Looks good, just for indoor areas(if there are any) bring the level of detail up a bit.

So when will it be out? You're still using my M-79 reload anims and all those other anims I gave you right? I hope you kept the dual pistols!!

Edit: check out my new wad-in-progress for EDGE! http://www.wadsinprogress.info/?a=listwads&wad=429
These mods will be like the new generation of EDGE, putting all the horrible "cram-everything-I-can-find-into-one-wad" weapon mods into the past!!

Apocsoft writes:(new) 22.11.2004, 20:08 GMT+1

Hey Nick , im still using your m-79 reload sprites, but the dual 1911's didnt work. I told you & you said that you get them fixed. In terms of coming out, you have to wait for edge 1.29 coz the friendly ai is not working well.

And your right about a new generation of edge mods, btw what did you think of my other level, close combat?

Apocsoft writes:(new) 23.11.2004, 21:14 GMT+1

Some good news... i've decided to release a demo! But coz of my hosting i can only upload 2MB so i have to strip it down alot, as Napalm.wad is 7mb and the levels are 1.5mb.

So heres the plan..

The demo is going to have 2 missions (very basic missions at that) and also the half completed base camp for the mission briefings. Its only going to have a few weapons and enemys, also the ai marines won't do anything except 2 of them (this due to a, saving space b, the code messed up).

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 24.11.2004, 03:15 GMT+1
edited 24.11.2004, 03:18 GMT+1

I have a solution for you.

www.freewebs.com

sign up and get uploading. The beauty of this is you don't even have to have t a working webpage- they don't care if you use it for storage. 50 megabytes free.

Do this so you won't have to cut corners on the demo! I want to see the mod's FULL potential.

Edit: If you put up the full demo I can fix those dual 1911's for you. Trust me, it will add a lot of fun to the mod!

Apocsoft writes:(new) 24.11.2004, 19:00 GMT+1

Thanks Nick for the ideal! thats great news, also if you still have the old 1911 code then use that as i have not updated it at all, if not i will email u it.

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 24.11.2004, 23:27 GMT+1

Alright, tell me when you've uploaded it and you can e-mail me the old dual 1911 code(I don't have it anymore). my e-mail adress is at www.freewebs.com/mouac under credits, I'm directing you there only because I don't want more spam from putting my e-mail up here.

I also included in that wad I sent a long time ago: smoother grenade-throwing animations, and better 1911 reload animations too, if you're not already using them you should use those too just to make it look better.

Anyway, tell me when it's uploaded and I'll test it out for you!!

Nmn writes:(new) 04.01.2005, 14:20 GMT+1

Lookin' really good.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 04.01.2005, 20:40 GMT+1
edited 08.01.2005, 18:22 GMT+1

Thanks Nmn, the demo is in the final stages before release, but do understand it won't be complete, but i will included the hi-res textures (don't worry theres not that many, about 2mbs extra atm) and the Ai marines, but they wont fight properly atm.

I would like to say this weekend, might be a bit optimistic...

Chronoteeth writes:(new) 04.01.2005, 22:02 GMT+1

Thats damn sexy.

Nmn writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 00:47 GMT+1

Argh. That must be the best forest I've seen to date. Gotta play it to get some inspiration for my Haze :)

Dark_Shadow2004 writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 02:54 GMT+1

Thats some really impressive work! I am actually wanting to play this :) Good Job

Chronoteeth writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 03:38 GMT+1

That shotgun pwns so much ass.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 19:26 GMT+1

Well to start of with Chronoteeth i'm no artist, and judging your soul cube attempt your not either! so im not moaning( i don't know what you mean by pwns, but i take it, it means it sucks).

@Nmn: forest? suposed to be a jungle.. lol no worrys and im glad that my work will provide inspiration to people, especally someone such as your self,

And cheers Dark_shadow, dont worry you will be playing it soon enuf, in fact judging by what freewebs said, it will be this sunday the demo will released to you all!

I wont post a link on doomworld untill you lot have had a bash at it first,

Dark_Shadow2004 writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 19:36 GMT+1

Cool, and with no doubt it will play as good as it looks.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 20:37 GMT+1
edited 10.01.2005, 23:23 GMT+1

Well thats where you lot come in! Napalm has had no real beta testing, well black fish and Nick Perrin have both had a go, and the out come i felt was postive, aperently it plays a bit like covert ops...

@Nmn, if you want i can send you some more screenshots showing how i build the landscapes for napalm, its a lot diffrent to how most people make normal doom maps..

Chronoteeth writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 21:10 GMT+1

Apocsoft, pwn means it is really awesome.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 21:17 GMT+1
edited 10.01.2005, 21:26 GMT+1

Oh sorry chrono, didn't mean to go on 1, thanks for the support anyway! :)

Btw i've realised that nealy 4 years ago i releasd Napalm 1.0

http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11104

Ha Ha man that sucked, its come along way since then thank god, 4yrs thats a long time... but i've just descoverd a disk which contains a very early version of Napalm on it, dates back to 1999!!!

Nmn writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 23:28 GMT+1
edited 11.01.2005, 01:42 GMT+1

Apoc-sure, I'm always looking forward to learn something new. I might use it, or develop my own systems to build my forest, without using a 1000 trees.
EDIT:
Sonybono@interia.pl

Chronoteeth writes:(new) 10.01.2005, 23:36 GMT+1

That beta is missing a thing called "no such thing as SHADOWS"

Apocsoft writes:(new) 11.01.2005, 18:22 GMT+1

Nmn- I will send you some stuff in a couple of days... btw i dont use a 1000 trees! 900 to be correct :P

Chrono- you didn't play Napalm 1.0 did you?? o and theres a pm on doomworld for you, im Liberation in case you didn't know. I don't know what you mean by "a thing called "no such thing as SHADOWS"", but i take it you were on about Napalm 1.0.

Chronoteeth writes:(new) 11.01.2005, 18:30 GMT+1

Yeah it was about the napalm beta, didn't work for me for some reason, anyways...

Yeah i'll hook ya up, but they will have to be screen grabs, but i'll make em look good. You'll have to do the pick-up sprites though, because they used 3d models for it.

Now all you have to do now is register at WW's site and go on more :p

Apocsoft writes:(new) 11.01.2005, 19:07 GMT+1
edited 11.01.2005, 19:07 GMT+1

Thanks Chrono, the reason it dint work was probely cause you didn't use edge 1.24..

And ww's site?!? I take it you mean wild weasel's site...

joe2,
you should note that the current downloadable Edge 1.29 is actually a Beta version and should be treated as such.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 18:59 GMT+1

Here is the first Beta of Napalm in 5 years, very basic but a better one will be released... soon

http://www.freewebs.com/liberationas/beta/Nabeta2.0.rar

just have a look around...

btw the files only 3.5mb's

Nmn writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 19:15 GMT+1

Apoc, haven't recieved Your mail so far :/

Apocsoft writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 19:20 GMT+1

Yes sorry Nmn i've been a bit busy, i'm on it don't worry... download da beta and have a look at that for the meantime :>

Nmn writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 20:27 GMT+1

Archive corrupted :'(

Apocsoft writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 21:10 GMT+1

for fucks sake.. i downloaded it lastnight, try changing it to a .zip, coz thats how i uploaded it and freewebs changed it to a .rar

Nmn writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 22:03 GMT+1

Nope, still corrupted ;_;

Apocsoft writes:(new) 17.01.2005, 22:16 GMT+1
edited 17.01.2005, 22:26 GMT+1

sorry Nmn i've just tried it and it works.. hmm i'll uploaded it again as a real .rar, should have done it in 1/2 an hour.

Its Up http://www.freewebs.com/liberationas/beta/nabeta2.zip

Nmn writes:(new) 18.01.2005, 00:45 GMT+1

Still corrupted. Might as well mail it :|

Apocsoft writes:(new) 19.01.2005, 21:38 GMT+1

Sorry Nmn for the trouble, i would mail it but yahoo has a 2mg limit i think, Lobo downloaded it and said it unziped fine...

Anyway i was thinking of making a proper demo with some scripted missions and shit and release it to idgames.

joe2 writes:(new) 21.01.2005, 17:16 GMT+1

hay Apocsoft can you put it on a faster server cuse it takes to long to download

Nmn writes:(new) 21.01.2005, 17:31 GMT+1

Apoc-no worries, plain shots would be nice. Not only I don't want myself to spoil the project by playing it in it's current state but just the "forest" technique is what counts for me really.
And don't put the demo in /idgames. It doesn't allow Demos.

Apocsoft writes:(new) 21.01.2005, 19:44 GMT+1

Sorry joe2 i dont know of anywhere else to put it,

Nmn- Yes thats cool, im making another map tonight, i get some shots for you. Also what if i'll just called it a beta, coz napalm 1 is in there and its a beta?

Nmn writes:(new) 21.01.2005, 20:23 GMT+1

I think beta is pretty fine, but I'm not totally sure. The archives are plentiful of demons because in the past they were allowed.

Lobo writes:(new) 22.01.2005, 23:09 GMT+1

Note to those who have gotten a corrupted file message. Make sure you're using a relatively up-to-date program: I remember when I deleted loads of RAR files one time, only to find out later that they had been compressed with a newer version of WinRAR and my older version thought they were corrupt.

FYI I downloaded using FireFox and unzipped using ZipGenius 5(freeware)

Apocsoft writes:(new) 23.01.2005, 17:16 GMT+1

Thanks for clearing that up lobo, Nmn try that for the mo,

Apocsoft writes:(new) 23.01.2005, 17:16 GMT+1
edited 25.01.2005, 23:15 GMT+1

Any joy Nmn?

Update: i tryed the download and it downloads alot quicker now 75.kb - 90.kb per sec :)

joe2 writes:(new) 31.01.2005, 08:08 GMT+1

when i run EDGE v1.29 it just oud a bacl screen
so whats the problem and will this be fix

Apocsoft writes:(new) 31.01.2005, 19:00 GMT+1

How the hell am i supossed to know! anyway open up edge.log and check out the last line, it should list what it through a spastic at. check also that you are using the right edge.wad, ddf's, gfx drivers and you've run the openal program.

joe2 writes:(new) 23.03.2005, 04:39 GMT+1

Hay why don't you put Nabeta2.0.rar on a faster server and maby more people will play it

Apocsoft writes:(new) 24.03.2005, 23:26 GMT+1

Coz i cant find a quick server, i can send it to you joe2 if you want, but i would like to say that most of my work atm is on Avp, but just post up your email address mate..

You had me worried for a bit.

NiGHTMARE writes:(new) 12.05.2007, 19:34 GMT+1

The third shot could do with some texture aligning, but otherwise this is looking good :).

esselfortium writes:(new) 12.05.2007, 23:02 GMT+1

yeah, i agree. this looks really great, but the complete lack of texture alignment on the trees in shot 3 makes me want to cry. :(

Apocsoft writes:(new) 13.05.2007, 07:11 GMT+1

Im glad people are still intrested in Napalm, i make sure i finish it!!

Lupinx_ressurected writes:(new) 15.05.2007, 22:16 GMT+1

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 26.05.2007, 14:21 GMT+1

Hey!! I know how EDGE's friendly code is a bit annoying... your friends will never be directly attacked. Anyway, you should align those tree textures as others have said... But I definitely want to play this mod! It's been around for a while, so I'll be sure to play it once it's released!!
